Stuck Inside With Your Kids? 20 Activities That Are Not Screen Time

Co-Founder

It is 2pm on a Saturday. It is raining. The kids are bouncing off the walls. You have already exhausted 'watch a movie' and 'play video games' and now everyone is bored and cranky. Sound familiar?

Here are 20 indoor activities that require minimal supplies, zero planning, and actually create connection instead of just killing time.

Zero Prep Required

1. Floor is lava — rearrange the furniture and go. 2. Hide and seek in the dark — close all the blinds, turn off the lights. 3. Pillow fight tournament with brackets. Keep score. 4. Simon Says but Dad has to do every command too. 5. Build the biggest blanket fort in the house using every pillow and blanket you own.

Slightly More Effort

6. Indoor scavenger hunt — write 10 clues on paper, hide them around the house. 7. Bake something together. Cookies are the easiest. Let them measure and mix. 8. Duct tape a line on the floor and play indoor bowling with water bottles. 9. Interview your kid like they are a celebrity. Record it on your phone (then put the phone away). 10. Paper airplane contest — longest flight wins.

Creative Mode

11. Draw each other blindfolded. The results are always hilarious. 12. Write and perform a play. Give it 20 minutes of prep and 5 minutes of performance. 13. Make a time capsule with drawings, notes, and small objects. Seal it with a date to open. 14. Create a new board game together using paper and markers. 15. Fashion show with the most ridiculous outfit combinations from your closets.

Learning Disguised as Fun

16. Teach them to cook one real recipe. Something they can make again on their own someday. 17. Card game marathon — Go Fish for little ones, Poker for older kids (use candy as chips). 18. Science experiments with kitchen supplies. Baking soda volcanoes never get old. 19. Map out your family tree together. Kids are fascinated by this. 20. Teach them one life skill: sewing a button, basic first aid, or how to do laundry.

The trick with indoor activities is lowering your standards. It does not have to be Pinterest-worthy. It just has to be you, being present, doing something together. The mess can be cleaned up. The memories cannot be un-made.
